Both conventional and dual-mode electric automobiles exit the main rail line by switching to an exit siding rail where the decelerate to a stop at the exit ramp in much the same manner as vehicles slow on freeway exit ramps. Conventional cars drive up a short ramp from the stopped car ferry and then drive down a weather-protected down ramp to the street or access road. Empty ferries pass under exit ramps and move to an entry ramp to await another car. Dual-mode cars drive directly from the siding rails to the street or access road by way of the same weather-protected down ramp. Dual mode cars leave with fully charged batteries for street use.
